Left Handed Reel
Left Handed Reel: Most wreck reels in local dive shops are intended for right handed people. Since I am left handed, I need something different. |
|
Different reels I use: 1) Salvo 400ft. (primary reel), 2) Modified Omer (primary wreck reel), 3) Spool and 4) Marc Valentí spear gun reel mounted as a Woody Jaspers side winder (safety reel) |

Omer Reel 100. From http://www.omersub.com/data/reels/reels.htm
NOTE: This Omer reel has been discontinued. New ones are quite different and useless as wreck reels. |
|
Construction: I begun with an Omer 100 speargun reel. Its particular shape makes it unlateralized and perfect for left hand adaptation. In order to fit the angled handle you have to flatten the upper plate (the one used to fit the reel to the spear gun pipe adapter). Galvanic corrosion between alu and 316 nuts and bolts doesn't seem to be a problem with good rinsing after dives. The bolt snap is attached according to Dive Rite´s guide at http://www.divegearexpress.com/library/boltsnap.shtm. |

Delrin Spool Very useful, it's not right or left handed. Take it to every dive. Threaded with 160 ft. of 550 lb. Dyneema 1,4 mm. line. |

Spool alternative. Ballasted rope: |

|
10 m. ballasted rope for free buoy ascent from drift dives. Core is a 350 gr. piece cutted from a 2 Kg. lead wheight. Rope end loop is secured with a 40x3 mm. "O" ring. The whole is stored in the right zippered pocket and secured with a plastic suicide clip. |
